What I learned being laid up…..

For the last few weeks, I have been fighting an upper respiratory issue of some kind, that then turned into a head to toe body rash.

TMI?

Maybe, but it taught me some great lessons I thought you may be able to leverage as well:

  • Don’t fight your body screaming at you. When it sends you to the bed, take the clue, and rest, completely. There’s a reason behind your body failing you… sit still and listen to what it needs.
  • Don’t feel guilty about your work, family or friends suffering as a result of you taking care of yourself. The work, your family, and friends will all be there when you are back to being yourself. And, if others expect you to deal with it, consider what that means to the relationship you have with them; whether boss, team member, family member or friend.
  • Use the time to go inward and consider your goals, dreams, plans, actions, and results. Ask yourself the following questions, then sit quietly and consider what your pulse, gut, heart beat, breathing, and mind is telling you; What’s working in my life. Why are they working? What is not working? Why? What do I truly want in my life? What don’t I want? What can I do today to begin pursuing those wants?… Your body and mind will provide you clues if something needs to change. You just need to be fully committed and unafraid to listen and feel the truth.
  • You can’t rush getting over being sick. I learned that quickly as I attempted to go back to work after being laid up a full work week. I wasn’t contagious and had been on antibiotics the entire time, but my body revolted by disrupting the meetings with constant hacking and amping itself up into a full fledged fever and upper respiratory issue. Giving into it and resting the following full week, I was able to settle my mind and my body enough to let the whole thing work itself out. Allow yourself the time and space for your body and mind to reset and recharge.

UPDATE as of 9/1/17 – I am back 100%…. with a new plan and a new set of goals as a result of my resting and sitting still. I am excited, energized, confident, and motivated toward making those plans a reality.

Take care of yourself, you deserve it, and your body and everyone around you will thank you for it.
