Everyday, Leaders Are Leaving Money on the Table.

There was a time when I believed; as long as I was good at my craft, worked hard, and generated results for a company; I would be secure, not only in my job but in my mind.

Oh, how wrong I was; on both accounts.

After twenty-five years of mastering my skill set, generating great results for my company, and rising up the corporate ladder, I found myself standing in the middle of a parking lot with a pink slip in my hand.

I was confused more than anything. I kept asking myself; how did I get to this point? I didn’t know it at the time, but when I learned the basis for it, I couldn’t help but pen my discoveries in my book, Shedding the Corporate Bitch; Shifting from Bitch to Rich in Life and Business.

What did I discover?

I realized; success in business (just as in life) has nothing to do with how smart, skilled, or well-networked you are. It has everything to do with how confident, empowered, and self-valued you are.

At first, I didn’t understand that. Who cares what the state of my mindset is, as long as I get the job done. Who cares how I go out into the world and into the workplace, as long as I show up, do the work, and generate the results I’m expected to?

The very ambitious, determined and busy businesswoman I was, couldn’t get my head around the need to focus on my mindset while working 24/7, traveling weekly, and aggressively pursuing my career goals. How I was feeling, what I was thinking, and certainly what I thought of myself, played absolutely no part in my day.

Right?               Wrong!

It had and has everything to do with it. The state of one’s mindset determines if they, their team, and company are successful or not.

Consider this:

  • If someone believes they haven’t earned a promotion or an opportunity – they won’t ask.
  • If someone doesn’t trust in their decision making and the results they can generate, they won’t take the risk.
  • If someone feels like a fraud in their work or position, they will limit what they could actually do, for fear of being called out as not knowing.
  • If an employee or manager doubts they have anything of value to say or do, they will simply do what is asked of them, and nothing more.
  • If a manager or employee doesn’t trust that others will do their job; potentially impacting their own success, they will control, micromanage and not manage or hold others accountable.
  • If someone is insecure, unsure of themselves or unempowered, they will force or demand respect from others, potentially bully others and/or be an absentee manager or team member.

If you were to put a financial number on the impact of each of the above, what would the positive or negative result be? How much money or ROI would the above leave on the table if never addressed?

Now, what if your employees shifted, changed or improved the emotional, mental, spiritual and physical state of their being; shedding themselves of the things keeping them from fully optimizing their skill set, and enhancing the areas of their self which contribute value to their work? How more productive and profitable would they be?

It isn’t about playing therapist or establishing a therapy office in your company. It means providing both mindset and skillset development programs; recognizing that their employees are people; who deal with external and internal workplace situations, issues, and challenges, which impact their performance on the job.

Does your company invest in the training and coaching of your people to optimize both their mindset and skillset? Do you want to, but are unsure of how to go about structuring and implementing a program?

Do you recognize what your company could achieve and the ROI you can reap, if resources, time and budget were dedicated to it?

Just considering those questions put you on the right track for doing something… and that alone will get you back the ROI currently being left on the table.

If you have additional questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
