The 1 question you have to answer for a RICH 2016!

When I start working with a client, the first thing we will do is an assessment of how they set goals, define action plans, execute on those plans, and assess how they did against those plans (the good, the bad and the ugly).

To often it is a short conversation, despite them being CEO’s of their own business or an executive of someone else’s company.

Sure they set business metric goals – revenue, profit, maybe even customer acquisition and retention. However they rarely have soft professional or personal goals, i.e.

  • Leadership goals
  • Personal Development goals
  • Relationship Building or Family/Friend goals
  • Financial, Saving, Budgeting or Bill Reduction goals
  • etc..

There are many ways to slice the new year’s resolution or goal setting process… and yet, most people are most comfortable sticking to the purely business, non-personal, non-committal, non-accountable type of ‘me’ goals.

Instead of focusing on the goals to be set, I have my clients focus on answering one single question – and I advise you do the same thing; focus on it, put pen to paper on answering it, and be completely honest with yourself about it…. because it will be the difference between you achieving the outcome you want from your career, your business, your life…. or simply existing in your career, business and life!

Question – what would my career, business and life look like if I achieved the goals I set for myself?

It doesn’t matter what the goals are, whether you have set them or not…. simply focusing on achieving whatever goals you set is the key. If you knew you would achieve your goals, if you knew you could overcome anything to achieve those goals, if you knew you possessed everything you need to achieve your goals – whether that is resources, people who support you, money, etc.. then the real question is ‘why don’t you set, act on and achieve your goals’?

9 out of 10 of my clients don’t set goals because they are X, Y, Z about not achieving their goals (you can fill in the blanks for yourself)…..  but instead of focusing on ‘not achieving’…what if you stay focused on what your career, business and life will look like when you ‘achieve’ your goals.
