Happy New Year!! I pray your holiday season was joyous and 2015 has kicked off with a bang. It has for me, though today, January 5th is actually my New Year kickoff.

Can you relate?

For as long as I can remember, one OCD tic I have always had is; I can’t start anything new; whether that be goals, resolutions, projects, etc. on any other day but Monday. Not on Thursday, as January 1st was, or Wednesday, and certainly not a Tuesday; but Monday. So, today is my New Year.

Maybe its the desire to delay, avoid or excuse away, even for just a few more days, binging on my favorite food or drink, allowing myself additional mornings to sleep in, or forgoing the gym just one day more. Whatever it is, it is a tic I have finally acknowledged and determined had to go. I didn’t want to go into a new day, month or year, already delaying what I wanted to achieve. I am determined to kick off this new year focused, committed and free of excuses and bad habits. So, I laid out and have decided to do the same 3 things I coach my colleagues, peers, students and clients at the New Year.

1. Set Your Goals – not in your head but on a piece of paper. Not in one line, but detailed out with all of the specifics needed to turn dreams into achievable goals. Download a complimentary Goal Setting to RICHes template HERE.

2. Identify your Victors (strengths) and your Sabotagers (weaknesses) – think hard and long about this; what are the attitudes, behaviors, habits or tics you possess which can either:
A. give your goals energy, focus and commitment
OR
B. drain, repel, or block you from acting and achieving your goals.

Note: this step takes complete transparency, truth and self-awareness. And if you can’t be honest with yourself, who can you be with. Plus you deserve to bare it all, as you deserve to achieve your goals. Believe in that.

3. Act, Assess and Adjust – Too many of us give up the moment something goes wrong in our pursuit of a goal or resolution. As a matter of fact ONLY 8 % of individuals stick with their resolutions. How about instead, you consider the 3A’s…. take the action, assess how you are doing, and adjust as needed. Meaning, you don’t give up and throw in the towel, you get up and use that towel to dry yourself off (determine what it was that caused you to derail) and start again; today, this moment.

I too, have to focus on Step 3 and eliminate my Monday tic and other sabotagers which get in my way. No need to delay, avoid or excuse it for a few more days, weeks, month, and God forbid, years. A Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday is just as good as Monday.

So, what are your goals, sabotages and ways you can act, assess and adjust?

Honor yourself and take the time to sit down, paper and pen in hand, and construct your personal plan for pursuing and achieving your goals. Whatever they are, know I am here to support you, cheer you on, even hold you accountable if needed. But whatever you do, do them. 2015 can be an awesome year if you do. HAPPY 2015!

Would love to know what questions you have, how you confront the victors and sabotagers in your life, and how you feel when you achieve your goals. COMMENT below.
